Housing & Commute

IGS typically uses apartments to house our clients. If a student is traveling solo, we provide them a private room, shared bath with a landlord. Female clients are placed with female landlords. Depending on the location, we may able to offer dormitory housing or a homestay option. We aim to keep housing within a thirty minute commute of the internship location if possible. For our Down Under group program, housing is two per room in apartments.

Typical commute will be by bus or light rail. The average commute will be around 25 minutes with some as short as 10 minutes and others a maximum of 50 minutes. As internship hosts will be located throughout the city, commuting will be a necessary part of the program. In certain locations, it may be advantageous to purchase a used bicycle for the commute and sell it when you leave. For stays of three months or more, we have had students purchase used scooters and sell them when they leave.. Each city is different and we suggest the best means of transport.
