• “The staff at the café I worked were amazing! The owner was also the chef and had quite a following in the neighborhood. We had a lot of repeat customers who were loyal to the restaurant. They let me apprentice with the chef and prepare daily specials. I learned a lot about recipes and the preparation that goes into this level of cooking. I also got to work the floor and try my hand at being a barista. It was great fun and some hard work.”

Restaurant Work

Our students have apprenticed with award-winning chefs. They worked in a café that specializes in the weekend brunches and award-winning pastries. The owner takes great pride in their daily creations and one look at their Facebook page and you discover they are rock stars in their community.

In Auckland, one of our students wanted to learn barista skills and was trained on that service. Baristas are often the first face a patron sees in a restaurant. It takes competence to earn a manager’s trust to be the face of the restaurant. Our student achieved that honor and earned high accolades.

Working alongside a chef and local staff provides insight into not only restaurant business, but also the local culture. Regulars frequent these cafes, and Sundays are nothing short of an event.

We work with students who aspire to go into the restaurant industry as well as those who just want to try out something different and be on their feet for an internship. It’s a great way to meet locals and see a community from the inside out.
