• “I taught myself web design in High School but wanted to be with professionals in the field. IGS found me a top design company where I could both learn and contribute. The first two weeks were a little stressful trying to learn new coding techniques. I was able to become productive and contributed to a major redesign that we completed for a client. I confirmed what I hoped that this is a solid career choice for me.”

Website Development

Our Web Design internship has two different tracks.

We place you with a leading web development company whose sole mission is web site development and works with both large and small businesses to provide a quality end product. Work with a leading web development team and learn the latest web development techniques and languages including: Dreamweaver, Joomla, HTML, Perl, PHP, ASP, JSP, ColdFusion, etc. Work with programmers on the latest marketing strategies and incorporating social media into web development. This internship aims to provide a comprehensive approach to web design from start to finish. Conceptualize a web site from a blueprint and learn to work one on one with clients to deliver a finished product that meets expectations. Practice editing techniques using the latest graphic design technology and manipulate images and logos in Photoshop and other editing software.

We place you with a professional organization typically in eco-tourism, social media, environmental conservation, social services, or a professional organization of your choice and you are assigned to design, update, and market their existing web site and web presence. If you have a passion or cause, we may be able to place you with an organization that promotes your world vision and you can use your existing skills to improve their web presence.

Our internships will help you define the audience for your web development assignments. People will be viewing the web site for a specific reason and the internship hosts will teach you exactly what they are looking for when they visit the site. You will need a clearly defined purpose or goal for the site as well as an understanding of what visitors want to do or feel when they visit. A list of characteristics common to the users include:

  • Audience Characteristics
  • Information Preferences
  • Computer Specifications

Our intern hosts may have you test the content on a focus group and compare the offerings to the audience needs. The next step will be to categorize the content and organize it according to user needs. Planning for the site’s content ensures that the wants or needs of the target audience and the purpose of the site will be fulfilled. Most internship hosts will require the following:

  • The content: The substance and information on the site should be relevant to the site and should target the area of the public that the web site is concerned with.
  • The usability: the site should be user-friendly, with the interface and navigation simple and reliable.
  • The appearance: the graphics and text should include a single style that flows throughout, to show consistency. The style should be professional, appealing and relevant.
  • The structure: of the web site as a whole.
